Cowslip
Hardy Perennial
6 inches.
Flowers of several colours, in May.
Garden varieties of the Cowslip of the meadows;
besides the yellow of the wild flower, they have
sported into several shades of red and brown.
The seed should be sown about the end of May,
in shallow drills in a piece of ground not too
fully exposed to the sun; in a dry season the
bed should be shaded with a mat till the seedlings
appear. Keep clear of weeds, and put out the plants
when they are large enough to handle into an intermediate
nursery-bed, or, if they are not likely to be
overgrown by other occupants, into their final
quarters.
