Hardy Perennial.
1 to 3 feet.
Flowers in shades of scarlet, orange and yellow,
June to September.
Handsome border perennials with wiry stems and
flowers with a golden centre, not unlike strawberry
blossom. They are easily grown in almost any soil
with an open exposure.
Plant roots in borders
in autumn or early spring, where they will have
room to form clumps a foot and a half across;
sub-divide every fourth year. Seed may be sown
on a nicely prepared bed or in boxes about the
end of May, the seedlings pricked out and finally
planted in their flowering positions the following
spring.
The best varieties are: Geum coccineum plenum,
scarlet, semi-double;
Geum Heldreichii, low-growing
tufts of leaves with orange flowers on stems eighteen
inches high;
Geum miniatum, single scarlet; Geum montanum,
bright yellow.
